InstantCinema

Games and creative tools for the Mac

How your data is handled

I built InstantCinema as a quiet corner of the web—a place to browse a filmmaker’s collection of Mac games, audio tools, and creative software without noise or surveillance. Transparency matters to me, so here is how I handle anything you choose to share.

Is InstantCinema meant for children?

No. The catalogue includes games that carry age ratings and creative software aimed at adults. I don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under thirteen, and if I learn that I have, I delete it. If you’re a parent or guardian and believe your child has signed up, please write to me at [email protected].

What do you do with cookies?

Almost nothing. If you browse without signing in, I set no cookies at all—not a single one. When you sign into your account, I place a session cookie so the site remembers you’re logged in as you move from page to page, and a small sign-in marker that keeps the session alive. Both disappear when you sign out. I don’t use advertising cookies or tracking cookies, and no third party drops anything here either.

What information does the site keep about me?

If you haven’t created an account, the only trace you leave is in my ordinary server logs. Those logs record your IP address, browser type, and the pages you requested, and I keep them strictly for security and troubleshooting—spotting errors, blocking nuisance traffic, that sort of thing. Once you sign up, your account stores the display name you choose, your email address, a hashed (not plain-text) password, any programs you’ve saved as favourites, comments you’ve written, and site notifications about updates to those saved programs. Everything is minimal and purpose-driven.

What happens when I leave a comment?

Every comment is read by a human before it appears publicly. That human is me, Hana. While a comment waits for moderation, its author sees it marked “awaiting moderation” on the page, but nobody else does. During moderation I see the comment itself, the display name tied to the account, the email address on file, and which program page the comment was left on. If I approve it, the comment goes live with your display name attached. Your email address is never shown on the site.

Can I delete my account or remove a comment?

Yes. Write to [email protected] from the email address associated with your account, and tell me whether you’d like the full account removed or just certain comments. I take care of deletion manually, and once something is gone, it’s gone from the live site. Please understand that the server logs I mentioned earlier age out on their own schedule—I don’t edit those individually.

What will you never do with my data?

I will never sell your data, rent it, trade it, or hand it to an advertiser. I don’t run third-party advertising trackers, and I don’t profile your reading habits for anyone’s benefit. InstantCinema is a personal project funded out of pocket, and the only relationships I care about are the ones between you and the tools you discover here.

Will this policy change?

It might, if the site grows or if I add a feature that touches privacy. If a change is material, I’ll post a notice on the homepage and update this page. The essence won’t shift, though: I built this place to feel like a director’s notebook, not a shopping mall, and that spirit isn’t going anywhere.
