Twenty-four seconds. That is how long an unknown symptom takes to scan when you send a vial to the rear lab, and every second the queue outside the gate grows longer. Quarantine Zone: The Last Check puts you inside a critical checkpoint during a society-level collapse, where the infected are not the only threat — time, chaos and your own dwindling supplies are just as lethal. The core loop is not about shooting hundreds of shambling corpses. It is about standing at a window, reading documents, deciding who gets through, and living with the consequences when an alarm sounds and the drones spool up.
- Receive travellers and cross-reference their papers against a shifting set of entry rules that evolve as the outbreak worsens.
- Send blood samples with unknown symptoms for examination, tying up your lab for those twenty-four seconds while unrest builds outside.
- Manage a lean stock of food, medicine and ammunition, choosing who receives rations and when to lock the gates early.
- Defend the camp directly during alarm events, toggling armed drone turrets to suppress breaches as the infected press against the perimeter.
- Make judgment calls on families, smugglers and the visibly ill, knowing a wrong decision can cost you a guard or trigger an internal fight.
Built by Brigada Games and tested here on a 2024 Mac mini M4 running macOS Tahoe, the ARM build runs through Wineskin. If the simulation crashes on the second day, a quick trip into the app package to swap the launch argument from -dx12 to -dx11 resolves it. Voice work shifts between English and Russian depending on the character, which grounds the checkpoint in a weary, lived-in texture that matches its resource-management pressure.
A shift at the gate: day three of the outbreak
You start a session by checking the overnight reports — two guards are exhausted, medicine is down to a single kit, and the external loudspeaker took damage during last night's breach. The morning queue is already forming. A family of three approaches first, papers damp from the rain. The father's travel permit checks out. The mother has a cough she tries to suppress. You flag her for a blood draw, and the lab timer begins its twenty-four-second count. While you wait, a lone trucker pulls up with a sealed crate. Your scanner pings on contraband: canned goods and a box of ammunition. Confiscating them buys goodwill from the perimeter guards, but the trucker's protest draws attention.
By midday the quarantine tent has two occupants and your food reserve is halved. An alarm event triggers — the perimeter sensors detect movement in sector four. You switch to the drone console, cycling through thermal feeds until you spot a cluster of figures shambling toward the eastern barricade. Two bursts from the armed drone break the wave, but the ammo counter ticks down faster than you would like. Back at the window, a woman with no symptoms pleads for entry. Her documents are forged, but the forgery is good — good enough that you almost miss the mismatched date stamp. You quarantine her for further screening, and the queue behind her grows angrier.
The shift ends when you call an early lockdown, conserving what remains of your supplies. You save the game manually inside the app bundle — the save files live deep in SharedSupport/prefix/drive_c/users/Sikarugir/AppData/Local/QZSim/Saved/SaveGames — and exhale. Tomorrow, the outbreak zone widens, and the entry rules will change again.
